April 26, 2015 - BRONX, NY - Medical student Jamie Rosen, a research fellow working with Dr. Adam Friedman in the Division of Dermatology, won third place in this year's Young Investigators Symposium for her presentation entitled "Nitric Oxide Nanoparticles as a Multi-Mechanistic Antimicrobial and Anti-Inflammatory Agent for the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris."

"The Symposium offers a unique opportunity for students, residents and junior faculty to both share their work and even more importantly, cultivate the art of oral presentation. Jamie masterfully reviewed our work showing the mechanism by which Nitric Oxide Nanoparticles, a technology developed here at Montefiore-Einstein, can potentially serve as a unique treatment for Acne, the most common inflammatory skin disease," said Dr. Friedman.

Ms. Rosen is the third research fellow under Dr. Friedman's direction to have received this award, joining Aimee Krauz, honored in 2014, and Alison Kunter, awarded in 2013. Dr. Friedman himself received this award in 2010 and 2009.

Twenty-five presenters from numerous departments competed for research prizes at the 20th annual Symposium, held Friday, April 17th, 2015, with a total of ten tiered awards presented (two extra awards were given this year).

"Each year I have a very difficult decision to make as our presenters work hard to present their abstracts," said Dr. Parviz Lalezari, who has judged the event for 20 years.
