First Salome Gluecksohn-Waelsch Prize to be Awarded
The Salome Gluecksohn-Waelsch Prize will be awarded for the first time this year for the best doctoral thesis submitted at the Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM) at Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany. The prize which will be given jointly by SGBM and the Department of Genetics honors Dr. Salome Gluecksohn-Waelsch (1907-2007), a longtime former Chair of the Department of Genetics at Einstein. Dr. Gluecksohn-Waelsch performed her graduate work with Nobel Laureate Hans Spemann at the University of Freiburg before emigrating to the United States in 1933 where she became a leader in the field of Developmental Genetics. The Awardee will present a seminar at the Department of Genetics at Einstein.
