The Bronx Westchester Academy of Family Physicians presented 4th Annual Wound Healing Teaching Day on October 24, 2015, sponsored by the Montefiore Wound Healing Program of the Department of Family & Social Medicine and Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Forty-five attendees from a variety of professional disciplines including family physicians, family medicine residents, PAs, nurses, and therapists took part in a lively discussion about wound prevention, early recognition, comprehensive management, and teaching of patients and families.

This CME conference was coordinated by Dr. Sudhir Vaidya (Montefiore Associate and Attending Physician at the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital). Dr. Sudhir Vaidya, Dr. Anna Flattau, Dr. Giacomo Vinces, Dr. Belinda Ostrowsky, Senior PA Carolyn Andrews, and RN Loraine Poliey updated family physicians, PAs, and nurses about chronic wounds (such as pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers) commonly encountered in outpatient and inpatient settings. Updates were given on advanced wound treatment and chronic wound characteristics.

Wound care continues to be a hot topic among health care institutions and professionals.

Those who are interested in next year’s conference should contact Gloria Negron,
