ACE Summer School Research Program 2013
Each Summer, the Sheryl and Daniel R. Tishmann Cognitive Neurophysiology Laboratory, hosts an internship program for students who wish to experience research at first hand and are interested in seeing how a lab operates behind the scenes.
2010 marked our program’s inaugural year, in which 10 research trainees participated. We are now recruiting a number of interns for Summer 2013.
How the program works:
Each research trainee will be assigned to a primary senior mentor, who will in turn assign you to a particular project that you will help to accomplish during your time here. The successful completion or near completion of this project will become your primary responsibility. However, we also encourage you to extend your interests to other areas, such as helping to recruit participants for various research studies in the lab and collecting electrophysiology (EEG) data from participants. Your mentor will send you some readings/publications related to your chosen project in advance of your start date. You will also be provided a modest stipend for the summer, contingent on a strong on-the-ground commitment to your project and regular attendance at the lab, the IDDRC Seminar series and lab meetings. We will also be running a weekly tutorial series expressly for the summer interns that will introduce you to the basic techniques and analytical methodologies in modern cognitive neurophysiology (click here for syllabus ). At the end of your program, you will give a presentation on your project.
Requirements to work in the lab:
Once you are accepted into the program, the following requirements need to be completed before you commence working in the lab. You will receive further details about the background check and health clearance and the appropriate paperwork to fill out.
All members of CNL including interns and volunteers are required to complete following:
1. A background check, which will involve a finger printing appointment at the OMRDD (Bronx)
2. Health clearance from the Occupational Health Service (OHS) at Einstein.
3. CITI Training Initiative:
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine has contracted with the University of Miami for faculty and staff to take the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) computer-based training program. This web-based course is a mandated educational requirement for AECOM faculty and staff who participate in human subject research. It must be completed every 5 years.
To register for this course, visit: http://www.citiprogram.org. Click on the "Register for the CITI Course" link, then select "Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University" under the "All Others:" category. Click the "SUBMIT" button, and proceed with the registration process. On the "Select Groups" page, check ONE box in the "Question 1" section. Skip "Question 2." Answer "No" to both "Question 3" and "Question 4." Upon the completion of the registration process, you will be granted immediate access to the tutorial.
Research staff who register for this course should indicate on both the initial registration page and on the final comments page Social & Behavioral Research as their area of research.
