Electrophysiology Laboratory
The
electrophysiology laboratory is 996 sq ft and houses the high-density EEG
recording systems in three 10'x8' and one 10'x10' electrically-shielded
sound-attenuated booths. Each booth is equipped
with auditory, visual and somatosensory stimulus delivery equipment, high
resolution eye-link eye-tracker
(model 2000) and head rest, and a direct feed video camera (for subject
monitoring) are also inside the booth.
EEG systems
The laboratory contains a
total of six EEG recording systems for human recording.
- Four BioSemi
EEG instrumentations with three 168-channel and one 72-channel systems.
- One Advanced
Neuro Technology (ANT) instrumentation with a 128-channel system.
- One Brain
Products instrumentation with a 128-channel system.
The wide
range of recording equipment enables the lab to record EEG data from a wide of
the population from babies to adults with great ease.
BioSemi EEG Specifications
High-density amplifier with a 72-to-168-channel system, a maximum
sampling frequency of 2048 Hz, DC amplifier, 24-bit resolution. The electrode
inputs are shielded with the electrode signal itself (active-noise cancellation).
Active electrodes ensure a disturbance free measurement and have the effect
that 50/60Hz interference and artifacts due to movement of cables are reduced
to a minimum.
ANT EEG Specifications
High-density amplifier with a 128-channels systems, a maximum
sampling frequency of 2048 Hz, 22 bit resolution (71.5 nV per bit), input
impedance > 10^12 Ohm, fiber optic connection to PC, active electrodes for interference
and artifacts reduction.
Brain Products EEG Specifications
High-density
amplifier with a 128-channels
systems, a maximum sampling frequency of 5000 Hz, DC amplifier, 16-bit
resolution. EEG amplifiers are equipped with number noise reduction techniques
such as active noise cancellation and active electrodes.
Super-Grid EEG Specifications
The Super-Grid was specifically designed
EEG-Cap by ANT for our laboratory to measure with high spatial resolution. The
application is mainly intended for the occipital area covering a area of approximately 10
cm in diameter with 128 electrodes.
Eye Tracking Specifications
The laboratory
has three EyeLink 1000 eye-trackers for accurate detection of eye-movements.
These systems can determine eye position at a sampling rate up to 2000Hz with a
resolution of up to 0.01° of visual angle. They can be either used with a head
rest in “Head Supported” mode or without chin rest in “Head Free” mode. The
“Head Free” mode is especially suited in populations in which a head rest or
head mount is not desirable, but high accuracy and resolution are still
important. Setting up and calibrating the eye-tracker usually takes 2-5
minutes.
