Virtual Reality Room

The 15'x10' Virtual Reality (VR) room enables a wide variety of experimental options to investigate vision and self-motion for both basic and clinical research. Within the VR Room there is a projection screen together with a ceiling mounted projector lends us the ability to perform close to full field of view visual experiments.

Using wireless markers and infrared cameras (Optitrack, Fastrack system) participants' head and body positions are tracked giving the researcher the ability to record a wide range of natural self-motion. Linking the projection screen and the infrared tracking system to update the participants position and viewing angle closes the loop between vision and self-motion.

Finally, in conjunction with these facilities we acquire brain activity using electroencephalography (Biosemi). As it is light weight and portable imaging equipment it does not hinder natural self-motion which enables our lab to perform ground-breaking behavioral and functional research in this field.
