This advanced seminar course will enhance understanding of the interplay of social and behavioral factors in determining public health and how they may drive interventions. The course will focus on a single global public health issue – OBESITY and explore the interaction among ecological, intrapersonal, interpersonal factors using the Social-Ecological model as a guiding principle. The course will also explore the importance of systems in influencing health, health behavior, and behavior change. Discussion will include health department initiatives to reduce obesity and other organizational and systemic initiatives to reduce obesity – including school-based, faith-based, and family-based interventions.
