It is estimated that more than 900,000 babies die each year globally from lack of oxygen at birth or perinatal asphyxia. About 90% of these deaths occur in developing countries. Compared to the USA, the neonatal mortality rate in Egypt is 4 times higher for newborns. Our goal is to improve neonatal mortality in Egypt by improving neonatal resuscitation skills of providers who attend deliveries. We hope to teach providers basic simplified skills that can be performed by traditional birth attendants in rural parts of Egypt.
