She is a physician-scientist who received her Medical Diploma and Doctoral Degree from the Free University of Berlin, Germany, and her Master of Science Degree in Clinical Research Methods from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. Her ultimate goals are the discovery of i) antibody biomarkers for active tuberculosis (TB) with particular focus on resource-limited settings with high HIV prevalence; and ii) antibody biomarkers for TB vaccine efficacy.

She currently travels twice a year to South Africa and has built a flourishing collaboration with scientists and physicians from the KwaZulu Natal Research Institute (K-RITH) in Durban where she also co-chaired an international TB Diagnostic Symposium in May 2010.
