Determination of the response to ART in a unique setting in the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
(This study was funded as a CFAR Pilot Project)
Ethiopia, as with other Sub-Saharan African countries, staggers under the burden of a generalized AIDS epidemic. It is all the more complex in Ethiopia due to its large population (the third largest in Africa), its multi-ethnic society, and its severely distressed economic and social conditions. The international community of nations has embarked upon a massive global AIDS treatment program. Creating successful treatment systems which foster seamless access to the various components of integrated ADIS care, which monitor genetic and socio-cultural responses to ART, which analyze adherence, and which track co-morbidities in each community are crucial.
