Dr. Elizabeth Hanna Luke was a post-doctoral research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Vinayaka Prasad at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine between March 2004 and March 2007. Her research project during this period was aimed at construction and characterization of infectious clones of Chennai-based HIV-1 subtype C clones. During her stay at Einstein she acquired skills in several molecular and virolocial techniques and applied them to her research project. She returned to India to continue her research career at the Tuberculosis Research Centre, Chennai. Using the expertise gained at Einstein, she established a HIV virology laboratory in her Institution. She is currently involved in examining differences in the rev and RRE of HIV-1 clades B and C, which is a continuation of the work initiated at Dr. Prasad's laboratory. Her other research projects include characterization of molecular determinants of co receptor usage outside the V3 loop of the env gene of HIV, and identification of immunological and virological determinants responsible for the clinical differences seen in HIV-1 and HIV-2 infection.
