Ms. Veerasamy's research project was aimed at "Characterization of FtsY,a signal recognition particle receptor of Mycobacterium tuberculosis". She worked on the deletion of ftsy by the specialized transduction method in Dr. Jacobs' laboratory. As sub-projects, she worked on the deletion of frda, sdhA and Rv0805 genes from mycobacteria and also on the construction of reporter transposon plasmid for mycobacteria. She benefited by receiving training in the techniques that she learned and was able to complete the final phase of her thesis research at Einstein. Apart from techniques, she also had the opportunity to meet and interact with her peers specializing in different fields, which widened her scientific horizon. She has returned to India to conclude her thesis research and aims to continue her research career in a reputed institute in India.
