MINUTES OF SENATE COUNCIL MEETING

MAY 9, 2012

PRESENT:  Drs. Jeffrey Segall, Ed Burns, Elyse Sussman, Barbara Birshtein, Michael Brenowitz, Anne Bresnick, Hannes Buelow, Harris Goldstein, Ulrich Kadolsky, Vinayaka Prasad, Pamela Stanley, Karen Weidenheim, Mr. Cary Weiss

 The minutes were approved.  It was suggested that Nature might switch from Yeshiva University to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University for its rankings of universities based on citations in Nature journals. 

There was further discussion of possible ways to stimulate faculty interactions and synergy.

Proposals included:

  1. enhanced areas for faculty to interact in the glass café/outside
  2. enhance the Faculty club to provide a site for faculty to meet/eat lunch
  3. have weekly/biweekly get togethers of Asst Profs, Assoc. Profs, and full Profs
  4. Continuously educating people regarding the Collaboration Zone
  5. Making sure that faculty are members of at least 1 center
  6. Have the center directors meet in order to try to efficiently stimulate interactions within centers
  7. Electronic methods for people to attend research seminars/grand rounds – webcasting/goto meeting
  8. Have a faculty equivalent of the postdoc/student beer hour? 
  9. Wine and cheese get togethers for interest groups
  10. Using the student lounge in Forchheimer one time a week for a get together
