Social Security

All F-1 Students attending orientation will receive information on how to make their application for a Social Security number.

If you receive mail in the Bronx, Brooklyn, or Queens, NY you must apply in-person to a Social Security Card Center for an original Social Security card.

The Social Security Administration has opened a specialized center in the Bronx to process applications for initial and replacement Social Security Number (SSN) cards.

The Bronx Social Security Card Center
820 Concourse Village West, Second Floor

(between 158th and 159th Streets)

If you have questions about this new procedure, please visit: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/

IMPORTANT NOTE:

ALL International Students & Scholars must check in with the OIS before going to a Social Security Card Center to make their application. To ensure that your information is properly validated in the immigration system, please schedule an appointment with the OIS to bring your immigration documents to the OIS within 10 days of your arrival to the U.S.

Please do not visit the Social Security Card Center until checking in with the OIS & waiting ten days after your arrival to the U.S.
