Non-Discrimination Statement

Dear Albert Einstein College of Medicine Faculty, Staff, Employees, Students and Applicants:

Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) recognizes that diverse perspectives are critical to success, and we reaffirm our fervent commitment to cultivating an institutional culture in which diversity is a central tenet. Einstein will only thrive when every member of its community believes they are a respected participant in the life of the college, without regard to individual characteristics. Discrimination, including harassment, compromises the integrity of the college. It is the intention of Einstein to take necessary action to prevent or correct discrimination and harassment. Einstein does not discriminate, in its programs and activities including employment and admission practices, on the basis of basis of race, religion, color, creed, age, national origin or ancestry, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental disability, veteran or disabled veteran status, genetic predisposition/carrier status, citizenship status, familial status or any other personal characteristic protected under applicable federal, state or local law.

Einstein’s policies and procedures pertaining to discrimination and harassment have been established, both as a legal obligation under applicable law and as a visible and formal expression of institutional policy. Each year we share the formal statement affirming the college’s commitment to equal access in the educational process and employment opportunity. Until such time Einstein has the authority to grant its own degrees, Yeshiva University remains the academic degree-granting institution for Einstein. As such, and in accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Yeshiva University’s Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Complaint Procedures shall remain in effect. A copy of this policy can be accessed via Einstein’s Human Resources webpage. Yeshiva University’s Title IX Coordinator, is designated to handle all student inquiries regarding Einstein’s non-discrimination policies and efforts to comply with its responsibilities under Title IX.

Einstein’s policy reflects the requirements under the new Article 129-B of the New York Education Law (“Enough Is Enough” Legislation) including statewide uniform definition of “affirmative consent” and a statewide uniform alcohol and/or drug use amnesty policy for students, and contains information about preventing and addressing sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking at the college. Please take a moment to review the updated policy, including the procedures for filing a report, options for confidential disclosure and the Student Bill of Rights.

Einstein strongly urges the reporting of all incidents of discrimination and harassment. All Einstein faculty, staff and employees with any knowledge, whether from firsthand observation, having been confided in or having heard about it in some other fashion, of an allegation of discrimination, harassment or sexual misconduct must report the incident. Einstein will respond to all complaints promptly, thoroughly, fairly and impartially. Retaliation is prohibited against anyone who filed and/or participated in the investigation of a complaint, even if the complaint is unsubstantiated.
